Hi Mihhail, Good option is Jasper. You need to: - abstract Pocolap data source as Jasper rowset - define the content of your report (jasper xml) - export to pixel perfect reports in various formats. More detailed info in the Jasper API. What do you think? Hi Guys,
I would like to know the team response on what if I migrate our build lifecycle to Maven instead of ANT. I can do the migration and document on how to build and deploy to the JBoss or Tomcat.
Please give me your suggestions.

Hi everyone, Just to inform you the site had a little face-lift. Also, pocOlap is now compatible with the javascript library jQuery. A great table plugin, Ingrid (http://reconstrukt.com/ingrid/index.html), has been used and adapted for data visualization. Columns are now resizable. Wouter |

We have a new host for the demo app. While the current host was very useful, it's extremely difficult to update the site (the hot swap feature has never worked correctly). The new host will make it easier to update the demo application and is also being offered to us for free. When we release version 0.2.0, we want to simultaneously update the demo site. Since the new site is available to us, but not public, I wanted to give you guys a chance to take a look at it before we change the links on the pocolap web site. There are still some improvements to be made, but what's posted now is a big improvement over the published demo. If you haven't updated pocOLAP lately and want to see the newer features we've been working on, I encourage you to go check it out. Feel free to poke and prod at this thing before we change the link on our home page. If it breaks, it's better to find out now! Let me know if you find a problem. The url for the demo site is: http://198.145.29.4:8080/pocolap/ReptPage.jsp We recently purchased "pocolap.com", so we'll be able to use "www.pocolap.com" before we go public with this site. Wow! We've been making some very good progress lately. Version 0.1.7 is very close to being complete, and includes some very nice new features. If you have a chance, update your code from CVS, build it and test the heck out of it. The biggest addition to version 0.1.7 is the introduction of saved reports. It's now possible to create a list of column, row and filter elements, and have them applied to the report grid with a single click! If you find user picking and clicking the same drilldowns and filters on a repeatative basis, defining a few saved reports will save them time and potential errors. Thanks to Rashmi for putting this together! The other really cool feature is the ability to add an image to the report page. In and of itself, this is a "no big deal" sounding feature, but consider that the image can be "dropped" into the internal database, instead of inside the web application. This means that images can be added, updated or removed without having to open the war file. Thanks to Ming for the ability to make this feature a reality! Of course, bug fixes and updated documentation will also be included. Because we have a nice, stable set of features, we will be releasing version 0.2.0 before including any new major features. Once we start improving version 0.2.0, it would be extremely helpful to have a more complete database for developers and testers to use. If you are interested in helping to create sample data, or have ideas or suggestions, please send a message to the list (or contact me offline). If you know of a company that might be willing to trade installation and configuration services for an export of data (we'll take great care to remove or modify any sensitive data), it would go a long way to improving the project. Finally, there is a new mailing list that all active developers and testers should subscribe to. All CVS commits should be posted to the list, along with a list of the files being committed. You can subscribe to it from the pocOLAP project page on sourceforge. Thank you for your continued contributions and support of pocOLAP. New code has been committed to CVS which includes changes to the internal database. A "resources" directory has been added which will allow administrators to "drop" images for use in decorating reports. Ming created a ResourceServlet which is able to locate and display image files in the resources directory. This allows us to create <img> tags that refer to these images as if they were inside of the web application. Very cool - thanks Ming! To test the servlet on your system, recompile the war file and create the new directory in the internal database. Copy a gif, jpg or png file into the resources directory (make sure the extension matches .gif,.jpg or .png) and call the servlet like (assuming your web server is on port 8080 and the image file name is image.png): http://localhost:8080/pocolap/servlets/Resources?type=image&name=image.png Todd The only "dumb question" is the one you were too afraid to ask. ________________________________________ Check out RouteRuler - Free software for runners, cyclists, walkers, etc. http://routeruler.sourceforge.net ________________________________________ Get a handle on your data with "pocOLAP", the "little" OLAP project http://pocolap.sourceforge.net ________________________________________ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hello All! I have committed quite a few changes to the code in CVS. The configuration file parsing process now uses XMLBeans. You will need xbean.jar to build it. XMLBeans can be downloaded from http://xmlbeans.apache.org Also, please note the following changes for configuration file: -Root element for config file - <reptconfig> tag is replaced with <crosstabdef> (CrossTab Definition) -The <source> tag is now an empty element. You'll need to use dbString attribute to specify dbStrings. Please feel free to write any comments/questions/suggestions. Thanks and Regards, Rashmi |

You are correct. There is an HSQLDB database that is distributed with pocolap, but the Derby based one is more current. We will continue to distribute both (at least for the foreseeable future). If you're interested in creating a new sample database, then the scripts\pocOLAPsample.sql is the correct file. There are notes on building the database in userdocs/sampledata. hi,
From project homepage Tasks, looks like we are using Derby as our
sampleDB database. just to make sure, the script that create sampleDB
is pocolap\src\scripts\pocOLAPsample.sql, right?
if I create the new sampleDB, I should just modify with
pocOLAPsample.sql with proper example data, right?
Thanks

Version 0.1.3 has been released. Lots of internal changes - see the release notes. Make sure you look at how the crosstab definition files (previous called whs_ files) are located by the application. You no longer define these in web.xml - they go in the internal database in a folder called crosstabdefs. Thanks to everyone who worked on this, and especially to Rashmi who spent time cleaning up my old stale code. This work will make adding new features much easier, and without risking the overall stability of the application. Let me know if you have any question, find any problems or have suggestions. The deployment for pocOLAP has changed. If you update your code from CVS, please note that the build will create a war file that will no longer work with the sample databases. You will also need to change the way you incorporate your own crosstab definition files (these were previously referred to as "whs_" files). Perviously, you copied the pocOLAPinternal directory (which was the Derby sample database) and 2 nss.* files (which were the HSQLDB sample database) to the C:\ or /tmp directories. Now, there is a pocolapDB directory (located in CVS in userdocs/sampledata). Copying this entire directory to C:\ or /tmp enables logging and sets up the sample databases. Previously, in order to tell the application about crosstab definition files, you would create a "whs_" init-param that pointed to your definition file. Now, you simply drop your crosstab definition files into the crosstabdefs directory in the internal database (pocolap/crosstabdefs). Restarting the application will cause the definitions to be read in. The only need to edit web.xml at the current time would be if you want to move the internal database (the pocolapDB directory). Within web.xml, set the value of the "pocolap.DB.location" init param to the new location/name of the internal database directory. This is all included in the INSTALL.txt file in CVS. The config_file_how_to.pdf is still out of date, but will be updated prior to our next release. If you are able to test the new code, please do so and let me know if there are any problems.
