I have a HP720C printer. Connected to a the parallel port on my Computer under Debian sarge (testing) it works fine.
A few days ago i bought the broadband-router Barricade 7004 ABR from SMC. There is a parallel Port on this router with LPD-Printer-Server (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Various tries to print lead to following error:
All the pages i've sent to the router was printed up to a little rest of the page at the bottom.
The print stops and the Power-Button blinks.
After a few seconds there is a noise in the printer like the beginning of the print.
I've tried the LPR-System with 'redirection', i.e. first filtering through pnm2ppa and then redirect in the remote Queue.
Then i've tried the LPRng-System with the filter pnm2ppa.
At the end i've decide to take cups.
But the result is the same.
In a former posting was written, that the stop of print is caused by a configuration failure in the local case.

The problem is solved. It has nothing to do with the pnm2ppa-software. It is a failure in the implementation of the barricadeimplementation of the printerserver, i think.
In the following i snipped the releasecomment of the runtime-comment of the barricade smc 7004abr
