2) A newscast never needs a stop and start time as we have used the system,
and as I anticipate others will use it. A newscast is usually a stand-alone
piece. The only situation might be where a user wants to post a single long
audio file and then use the db to point to selected sections of it,
identifying some as feature stories, and one as a newscast. Since mp3 does
not appear to support start and stop times--this would apply only to
stations using some other media format. So I would say if start and stop
times cause a problem with a good newscast uploader, you could forget about
it.
3) NCPR is going to all .mp3 audio for live stream, on-demand archive, and
the cd-quality audio we host in the concert hall. Other users may want to
mix audio formats, though I think it's a poor idea. We do, however, have a
large legacy of Real audio that will need to remain available to visitors
through the news cms. What issues do you face in accomodating mixed audio?

Hello,
I have a few urgent questions about the operation of v1 and v2.
1. How is MP3 start and stop times being handled?
2. Does a newscast ever need a start and stop time?
3. Are you supporting MP3 throughout the site?
Thanks,

Hi Mike -
MP3 meta files do not have (to my knowledge after attempting to
discover) the ability to manage start and stop time ticks.
However, the time info that is entered with the story is still
(somewhat) important. If a real file is used, those time ticks do
work. In addition, the time ticks are used to calculate the story
length for that portion of the story display.
I'll have to leave #2 & #3 to Dale.
