I have just committed the first part of the support for unicode (with
freetype) in plplot. Currently the gd family of drivers, and the wingcc
driver are the only drivers using the new code. Everything else should be
unaffected. Unfortunately I do not have time right now to describe what has
been done, or how to hook into the new code, but I will do a more detailed
posting within the next day.
The work still is not complete, but I think it is mature enough for testing.
If anyone is interested in adding to the Hershey look up tables, I will
just point out that if there is no unicode equivalent defined in the table,
then the old Hershey code will be plotted. If you find this hard to tell
what is what, recompile with TEST_FOR_MISSING_GLYPHS defined, and then
undefined glpyh-slots will be left blank.

Thanks for this New Year's present, Andrew. It is great that you made the

I am looking forward to implement Unicode support in both the ps and gnome
drivers. I do not know when this will be happen, though.
