Here is yet another world domination (and probably crazy) plan for PLplot:
After having looked more closely to PHP, I discovered that Swig can create
wrappers for PHP4. Since we already have the swig infrastructure in place
for Python and Java, it should be quite easy to get the ball rolling for the
I saw also that PHP can output GD image streams in PNG format, thanks to its
GD module. With some changes in the PLplot GD driver, we could have a full
scripting web language with on-the-fly scientific plot generation!
Once the work is done, we could convince SourceForge to have the plplot-php
module installed in their web server. From their "Guide to Project Web
While the SourceForge.net team has made an attempt to ensure that the
most popular PHP modules have been made available for use on the project
web servers, it is possible you may have needs which exceed what we
provide. In the event that you require the loading of a PHP module other
than those we currently provide, first login to the SourceForge.net
site, then submit a support request.
If that works, then we could implement the demo part of the PLplot website
using PHP and this will be an interesting advertisement for PLplot.
