Releasing earlier the 5.2.1.rc220.127.116.11 tarball has proven to be a good thing,
after all. We have already had some important build/install/run reports and
many problems got fixed in CVS. I thank very much all the the people who
tried the tarball and I am looking forward to receiving more reports,
especially those with failure problems.
This is the reason I was rushing to make this release candidate.
Furthermore, it helped to improve my experience with the release process.
All that to explain why I was so nervous last week, when HEAD never
stabilized enough to make the release candidate possible.
The only way for me to do progress was by creating the release branch in
CVS. This is an abhorrent solution, since it essentially duplicates my
commit & merge work. However, the decision has payed off.
I think that HEAD is now close to what will be the RC2, which is due for at
latest one week from now. I still have to audit the valgrind-clean patches,
but it is looking like they will make their way into PLplot 5.3.0.
Notice that I will only release RC2 when I will have gotten enough reports
on RC1, or the deadline comes, so please keep testing RC1.
