Hello, I have taken a first look at the first few Fortran examples and I have noticed quite a few deviations from the C examples that I assume to be the standard. Some are clearly due to the limitations of Fortran (like getting command-line arguments), others seem to be due to lack of maintenance (plcol() instead plcol0()) and then there are the differences in structure (x01 has three subroutines in the C version, but only one in the Fortran version). My question: What is the way forward? I think it is best to keep as close to the C version as possible - using dummy routines for the argument parsing and for those features like usleep that may be impossible under Fortran, for instance. This may mean introducing common blocks or - a better alternative in my view: local arrays. This may also mean changing the base for arrays from 1 to 0 - not quite in the Fortran spirit. The examples take both approaches. Your opinion please. Regards, Arjen |
