Then the xwin.c code uses pls->FileName (if set) to set the display. @Hazen: would you be able to do something similar for the xcairo device comfortably before the release date on September 28th? It appears to me that "Display" in drivers/cairo.c is set to NULL to start with so it might be trivial to use pls->FileName instead. However, there are a number of uses of "Display" in drivers/cairo.c so someone more familiar with that code than I am should implement this "would be nice" feature for the xcairo device.
