It is just that it is easier to run a Windows-native device when testing or viewing than starting X Window and then letting a program draw into that. The wingcc device does work under Cygwin, by the way. Like Alan says, the next big step could indeed be Qt. I will report back on the progress with that big chunk of functionality. (To satisfy Alan's curiosity: so far tests with individual examples have shown nice results, both pdf and png.)
