My tests show that with these changes in place, building a F77 program
with g77 that
uses PLplot is as simple as:
g77 -o prog prog.f `pkg-config plplotd-f77 --libs`
(with the possible exception of setting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment
variable and - to run it - extending the PATH).
