Hi Dylan,

Point about tech vs. people & process well made.

OK, I'll pitch in next time I hit one of these - meaning specifically a
simple question that needs rescuing from retracted content.

The reason that I've seen so many of late is that I'm working with a new
hire at one of my clients, and I keep saying "this is easy, here's a
quick note documenting the process!"...and then stumbling when looking
for the note.

If I have questions, given that this is re. docs on the website, should
I raise them here or on the docs list? (I'll have to learn some new
tricks to work within this process)

which is one reason we decided to try and bring it into one place http://developer.plone.org/

I think the answer is in the own words you use. Managing content is a process not just a technology. Plone is one technology that tries to make it easier but well managed content needs people and processes.
Luckily we have a process. If you have documentation that others need and you have, go to http://developer.plone.org/, find the right place for it and click the button "edit this document".

I guess we don't have a process of getting access to the retracted content so you can help merge it into the developer manual but I'm sure that members of the documentation team can get you a copy of that content should you volunteer to merge it.

If you fork the documentation and submit it, it will be reviewed before merge. Those who review it will let you know if it's not appropriate. If you are really unsure then email teh documentation list with the gist of your content.

Understood, and I understand that this is a case of "cobbler's

Plone: -

- Lots of what are essentially broken links in search results that point
to the Plone site.

- Plone knowledge scattered across the web in such a way that is hard
for an outsider to evaluate which is most valuable, and which
potentially misleading

- An uncomfortable message given that Plone is a system for managing
content, and we seem to have choked on the process of managing our /own/
content,


I know you know all this, that this is open source, and that I
can/should play a role in fixing it myself, but I just wanted to explain
what was behind the sad face.

I've written a bunch of how-to docs for my clients which are currently
private - perhaps I should start publishing them, but each was written
for a fairly narrow use-case, and I'm not sure my approaches would be
considered "best practice"...

yep. At the Stroopwafel sprint earlier this month, which focused on
documentation, most of the stuff in the old 'knowledgebase' was found to
be so horribly inaccurate, out of date and misleading, that the whole
section was taken offline for now.

There undoubtedly are some useful snippets in there somewhere. This
might be one of them, in which case it should find it's way into the new
docs. (Although more useful Stackoverflow answers are available.) But
most of the content was taken offline because it was just such a mess.

Work continues on the new documentation, there will be a bigger sprint
on it in Munich in march this year.

That's more or less how it's intended to be set up. The Member role has 
the 'ATContentTypes: Add Event' locally on /events/community, and 
there's a link to the add form at the bottom of the event portlet on the

There isn't any instructions on how to get something listed on http://plone.org/events/community
I'm trying to get a sprint event up for a sprint thats happening this friday-sat.
http://www.coactivate.org/projects/fishchips-sprint-2014/project-home

Why not allow contributor access to all members of plone.org and control it using reviewers and a content rule?
Make it a lot more user friendly.

Hi Kim,

It looks like someone has already fixed this. That page will show the most
recently released version, even if it's not in the current series. To fix
it, all that's necessary is to update the page for the most recent item in
the current series.

Hi - was just looking at this page and noticed that it has Plone 4.2.7 as the current release, not 4.3.2.  Is that correct?
