Loosing data on forms after validation error

When saving a form (the first time) that has a validation errors,  it displays the view with the validation errors. When I 'go back' to the form I sometimes loose the data in the fields that I previously entered. I seem to loose data when when accessing the site via https on FireFox. The does not happen when using http. I've checked other browsers (Chrome and IE) but I get certificate warnings so I'm not sure if I'm comparing apples with bananas, but I have not problem on http or https.

    Anyone seen this before?

the "Go back" button just makes a basic javascript history.back()
so it behaves just like the browser's Back button

so I guess this loose of data is probably the default behavior of FF on https
