Hi all, as I know in ppe you can load an *.ac model and can save with a new file-name. This means, that in ppe the *.ac-loader and *.ac-writer works well. Can I have more informations about this *.ac-loader and *.ac-writer? I'm sure this is a frequently asked question, but the glutCreateWindow() function takes my process memory utilization from 1.2mb to 162mb. On bootup, I get this: agpgart: AGP aperture is 64M @ 0xe4000000 So that's about the aperture size times 2, when I start the process. I guess I should be checking "glut" docs for this, not this mailing list. I figured someone here would know exactly whats going on though. -- Brian Hayward |

Hello! I put the headers and libraries in the proper directory, but it didn't work since I tried the new Plib1.3. which works fine. Now I'm trying to compile FlightGear. I have files like gl.h, glu.h, > ... in the directory: /usr/X11R6/lib/include/GL; one of them contains GLUT_LEFT_BUTTON;... . Aha! Your headers are installed in the wrong place. There is a standard for this (search for "OpenGL ABI for Linux" in Google and you'll find it). You need (as a minimum): /usr/include/GL/glut.h /usr/include/GL/glu.h /usr/include/GL/gl.h /usr/include/GL/glext.h /usr/lib/libglut.so {with optional version numbers) /usr/lib/libGLU.so {ditto} /usr/lib/libGL.so {ditto} Distributions that install these things in /usr/X11/lib are in violation of the OpenGL specification for Linux...your should email the Mandrake guys and complain. Mandrake will claim that OpenGL is a part of X and so should be installed in the X11 area - but they are wrong - there are versions of OpenGL that run without X and /usr/include/GL is the "official" place. -- Steve Baker HomeEmail: <sjb...@ai...> WorkEmail: <sj...@li...> HomePage : http://web2.airmail.net/sjbaker1 Projects : http://plib.sourceforge.net http://tuxaqfh.sourceforge.net http://tuxkart.sourceforge.net http://prettypoly.sourceforge.net http://freeglut.sourceforge.net |

When you walk the graph, try just checking for a LEAF instead of particular type of leaf. if ( e -> isAKindOf ( SSG_TYPE_LEAF ) ) The leaf class has everything you need to count triangles and verticies. --Dave |

May be the use of a more recent CVS image should solve the problem. It worked perfectly (providing you do a flatten before) with the correction. Hi Steve, my intetntion is not to save an object in a *.AC-file. This was only a test, to see by debudgguing the code in what way the informations of an object are strored. I need the information about the vertices and triangles of an object in my FlightSimulator-programm to calculate shadow. I am loading the AC-objects with ssgLoadAC in an object of ssgTransform class. How can I get the needed informations out of the ssgTransform-object? Can you help me? With best regards Michael |

Hey again. Okay, I've determined that I haven't got glut. I went and got the newest stable ver, 3.6, and unpacked it to its own directory. Following the linux-specific directions, I set everything up for creating a make file... but I don't have xmkmf! I _think_ xmkmf is part of the Xwindows library, so how can I not have this? I realize this isn't exactly in the direct purvue of this list, but since you all (most of you) got PLIB to compile, I'm hoping you can help me again. Thanks for your time! Hi, I've uploaded the 'newest' version of TuxFleet to my project page http://tuxfleet.sourceforge.net The only changes are a bit of cleanup and a ./configure ; make process via autoconf, should be easier to compile. TuxFleet needs plib-1.3.0 by Steve Baker (plib.sourceforge.net) to compile. A i386-linux binary is also available. If you don't mind, please download the source and/or the binary and test it and send your comments back to me ;-) If you're able to build a Windows-binary, I'd like to appreciate your help, too. Any feedback will be welcome Alex -- Alexander Rawass Email: ale...@us... Project Homepage: http://tuxfleet.sourceforge.net ...but some day you'll be a STAR in somebody else's SKY... |

Hi all, with the following code I read a *.ac model and try to save it again. Code: static int countVertices ( ssgEntity *e ) { int count = 0 ; if ( e -> isAKindOf ( SSG_TYPE_BRANCH ) ) { ssgBranch *br = (ssgBranch *) e ; for ( int i = 0 ; i < br -> getNumKids () ; i++ ) count += countVertices ( br -> getKid ( i ) ) ; } else if ( e -> isAKindOf ( SSG_TYPE_VTABLE ) ) { ssgVTable *vt = (ssgVTable *) e ; count += vt -> getNumVertices () ; } return count ; } static int countTriangles ( ssgEntity *e ) { int count = 0 ; if ( e -> isAKindOf ( SSG_TYPE_BRANCH ) ) { ssgBranch *br = (ssgBranch *) e ; for ( int i = 0 ; i < br -> getNumKids () ; i++ ) count += countTriangles ( br -> getKid ( i ) ) ; } else if ( e -> isAKindOf ( SSG_TYPE_VTABLE ) ) { ssgVTable *vt = (ssgVTable *) e ; count += vt -> getNumTriangles () ; } return count ; } /* Load Model.ac with plib */ static void load_model() { char Data_Path[128]; char Type_Name[128]; int Num_Triangles; int Num_Vertices; test_obj = new ssgTransform ; sprintf(Data_Path,"..\\Data\\"); ssgModelPath (Data_Path) ; ssgTexturePath (Data_Path) ; ssgEntity *obj = ssgLoadAC ("cube.ac") ; // ssgFlatten ( obj ) ; test_obj -> addKid ( obj ) ; // ssgStripify ( test_obj ) ; root_scene = new ssgRoot; root_scene -> addKid(test_obj); Num_Triangles = countTriangles(test_obj); Num_Vertices = countVertices(test_obj); sprintf(Type_Name, obj->getTypeName()); ssgSaveAC("test.ac",test_obj); } But the file test.ac is empty without vertices. Num_Triangles and Num_Vertices gives zero. Using obj instead of test_obj I got the same result. Running this part of code in the complete code the cube is visible. What is wrong? Actaully I've seen some Irix versions of Netscape try the decompression trick as well (but I think the machine's netscape might had been setup to pipe the file through gzip and then to disk in the mime-type settings). Michael Wessels wrote: > > Hi Wolfram, > > I have downloaded the source-tar-file as tar.gz but could not extract it > with winzip. That's probably because you downloaded it with Internet Explorer which is buggy. If you did use IE, what happened is that *it* automagically uncompressed the GZIP but didn't rename it without the '.gz' extension; If you rename <whatever>.tar.gz to <whatever>.tar and then use Winzip to un-tar it, you'll be fine. Alternatively, download it with Netscape - which works. -- Steve Baker HomeEmail: <sjb...@ai...> WorkEmail: <sj...@li...> HomePage : http://web2.airmail.net/sjbaker1 Projects : http://plib.sourceforge.net http://tuxaqfh.sourceforge.net http://tuxkart.sourceforge.net http://prettypoly.sourceforge.net http://freeglut.sourceforge.net |

Sounds like you don't have GLUT installed. You can get GLUT from www.opengl.org or www.mesa3d.org (and other places too). I'm betting that your 'configure' script didn't actually run properly. Hi, I'm new to plib and I wanted to compile it to use FlightGear, but when compiling plib I have the messages: GLUT_LEFT_BUTTON undeclared (first use this function) GLUT_RIGHT_BUTTON undeclared (first use this function) GLUT_MIDDLE_BUTTON undeclared (first use this function) GLUT_WINDOW_WITH etc... If I want to compile FlightGear, It doesn't find plib!! What is the problem. Thank to answear me |

The good point is that one interface does all cases: - ssgVtxArray and ssgVtxTable. - triangles, quads, n sided polygons. - ignores points and lines. So, with very little code you can get all faces as triangles. You just have to walk the scene graph. Hi all, I have loaded an object *.ac in my programm with char Data_Path[128]; int Num_Triangles; aircraft = new ssgTransform ; sprintf(Data_Path,"..\\Data\\"); ssgModelPath (Data_Path) ; ssgTexturePath (Data_Path) ; ssgEntity *aircraft_obj = ssgLoadAC ("body.ac") ; aircraft -> addKid ( aircraft_obj ) ; ssgFlatten ( aircraft_obj ) ; ssgStripify ( aircraft ) ; For further manipulation I needs information about the triangles and vertices of the aircraft_obj. I will implement shadowing after the NEHE Tutorial Lesson 28. What commands from plib I have to use ? With regards Michael |
