I tried several possibilities, but i can't get the ComboBox working. The clicked item doesnt get selected, and I am puzzled how to construct the callback function(s). Please enlighten me with an example. Thank you. Rob. |

I have text visible in the fileSelector when i comment these lines from the Viewer example. // puFont font1 ( font, 14 ) ; // puFont font2 ( font, 16 ) ; // puSetDefaultFonts ( font1, font2 ) ; Unfortunately the Legend text in the OneShot button remains invisible, while the Label text works fine. And there's still no callback execution from the button. I can however, select filenames in the FileSelector. ?? Can anyone help ? Rob. I succeeded in getting the Pui library to work with SDL, and got most of the viewer example code running. The text gets displayed and the FileSelector pops up. I even added a OneShot button (from the simple example, yes). Now I have two problems; the button doesn't show any text, and while it seems the button gets pressed (the border changes) it doesn't execute the callback function. The FileSelector doesnt show any text either, and also doesn't respond to the Cancel button. I pass every mouse event from SDL to Pui with the puMouse function, but maybe I need some other function to tell Pui that a widget is activated ? Any help on this subject is very welcome ! Oh, for the record, i run win98 SE and use MSVC 6. Thank you, Rob |

I think you need to include the library files into your project. Under VC++ version 6, Project->Add To Project->Files... and include pui.lib, sg.lib and any others that you need. The "non-GLUT" support in PUI from PLIB 1.4.2 is Windows-only since it binds Windows system fonts for UI text rendering (I guess the programmer who initially added the hack was a windows-developer). Same for 1.5.1. Later versions of PUI were changed to use portable, textured fonts instead. In case you are a Mac / UNIX developer, please grab a recent CVS snapshot (http://plib.sourceforge.net/dist/current.tgz) if you want to use PUI without GLUT. > Do i define PU_NOT_USING_GLUT in puLocal.h, and recompile pu.lib ? > Or should I define it in the SDL application itself ? Defining it in the SDL application itself *before* including "pu.h" should fine. With gcc, simply add -DPU_NOT_USING_GLUT to your CXXFLAGS. And remember that without GLUT, you have to feed PUI with window-dimensions (see the documentation for details) and that spreading widgets across different windows won't work (for now). - Sebastian |

I like to use Plib 1.4.2 without any references to GLUT, what steps should i take ? Do i define PU_NOT_USING_GLUT in puLocal.h, and recompile pu.lib ? Or should I define it in the SDL application itself ? Thanks in advance, Rob |

Sorry to repeat but I need to get this working asap as I have my final year disertation to be handed in next week and need to get this working to continue work on it. All I'm trying to do is get some sort of text input boxes in OpenGL and as I'm just learning windows programming on the hoof I'm having trouble using plib with glut. I got glut working evertually and I had a book to help me set it up. If you know of any web sites to help set up plib on msvc++ 5.0 could you please send it on to me. Thanks a bunch Steve > Can anyone help me with the problem below? > > Steven > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Steven Clark" <ste...@nt...> > To: <ud...@ha...> > Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2002 1:48 PM > Subject: Re: [Plib-users] installing on win98 > > > > I am trying to write software with pui and after following the directions > in > > readme I can't build the plib project as the option is greyed out (Im > using MSVC++ by > > the way). Well - I am not a windows developer, but there are some guys on this list that can presumably help you with the problem. - Sebastian |

You probably have one of several possible problems:
1) You didn't disable texture before rending your lights
2) You didn't enable lighting
3) You didn't use the right settings for glColorMaterial
4) You didn't set the glMaterial colour for EMISSION.
5) You didn't set glBlendFunc and enable blending in whatever
way you'd like it to be set.
Hence, whatever the settings of the last object drawn immediately
BEFORE your lights are drawn would determine how OpenGL's state
is set for whatever thing you forgot to set.
However, Runway lights shouldn't 'reflect' light - they should emit it.
Hence you should do one of the following:
EITHER:
* glDisable(GL_LIGHTING) - and use glColor to set the colour/brightness
of your lights.
OR:
* glEnable(GL_LIGHTING), glDisable(GL_COLOR_MATERIAL) - and use glMaterial
to set the GL_EMISSION colour of your lights.
OR:
* glEnable(GL_LIGHTING), glEnable(GL_COLOR_MATERIAL) - and set glColorMaterial
to GL_EMISSION - and use glColor to set the emission colour of your lights.

That's a pretty classic problem and it does point to some aspect of OpenGL's
internal state having been left to default by your runway light drawing code,
and hence being set only by whatever SSG rendered last before the lights.

Probably it only worked before because of a bug in the FireGL's OpenGL
implementation. The nVidia OpenGL drivers are VERY good - I doubt it's
their fault.

In case you do plan to do so and if you use either CygWin or MSVC++: Read README.win32, it contains the necessary instructions. - Sebastian |

Hi, I'm having trouble installing plib, well main pui but I'm not sure how = to install it or even where to install it. Anyone with a step by step = guide to installing it would be more than helpful. Thanks Steven Clark |
