Thanks for your help. I wasn't aware of their being a standard location 
so I apologise but it's really not me you should be arguing with. I'm 
using Gentoo Linux and the official ATI drivers and as because of this 
the location of the files is defined by the person who created the 
package. I am going to find out whether it's a problem with Gentoo's ATI 
driver package or the one that ATI deal out and will kindly ask that 
they sort it out. I am thinking about removing all OpenGL libs and 
headers from my system and starting again.
