I've had really good luck with the sound blaster lives.  The drivers
allow more than one program to play sound and everything get's mixed
appropriately on the card ... this is really convenient.  If you have
your mp3 player running for instance, you can still start up
flightgear and it can still play sound too ... rather than getting
locked out or starting up with sound disabled.
