I could get *shot* for revealing a trade secret here - so get your brain nice and comfortable - and I'll just say two words... "Environment Maps" ...'nuff said? No? Well think harder! VASI lights have to change colour gently BTW - they go through a definite 'pink' phase between the red and white light colours.
