Status? How do you mean?
* It compiles.
* It has no known bugs.
* It is required by a number of packages (eg PrettyPoly)
so it's definitely here to stay.
* I'm currently adding a Particle System to it. I don't think

'optional' and which could be written in terms of existing
SSG calls if the application programmer doesn't want to use
ssgAux calls. Consider it analogous to the GLU library for
OpenGL.
