How can this be a compiler issue? I thought this was a programming bug? It
however remains curious why redhat and mandrake seem affected anyway.. but I
see no reason why it would be compiler related.. It's just a flawed function
somewhere.. not?

Yep, I am.. There are a lot of tools that even require 2.95 or 3 even to
allow you to build.. (mainly video software, because pentium-mmx manipulation
seems really messed up)
