I have compiled PLIB under SGI's C++ compiler (dunno if it was v7.3 or
not though).  Could you tell me what the errors were - I'd like for it

Hmmm - I don't know either.  That's one of those black magic things
that autoconf 'just does'.

There is probably a command-line option to the ./configure script.
Check the 'INSTALL' file in the PLIB distro.
