The 3ds-loader does not use glColorMaterial, so it definitely works to some degree. But then again, people have been complaining about the 3ds-loader... but that's mostly texture related. (Regarding my project to fix the textures in my loader, Wolfram Kuss was kind enough to send me the models, but now it turns out that I have broken something in my X-server/NVidia/glx setup, so using textures of any kind *completely hangs* my machine!
