I would suppose all automated reply programs take this into
account - otherwise we would see much more of these cases, and in
my experience they are pretty rare. So I wonder how this happened
- somebody wrote their own script? :)

Btw, one of the simplests solutions to this is to just unsubscribe
the person from the list.
