Well, 'life or death' decisions (such as going '.so' or staying '.a')
are things I'd like to have a say in - but I'd hope that one or more of
those 23 other registered developers would be able to help commit a
simple patch.

a request with your sourceforge username and I'll be happy to add you
to the list.
