Gentlemen, This afternoon I tested my SVN access to an outside archive that JC Jones set up for me to test. I was able to download a complete archive and upload a changed file without difficulty. The pros and cons of changing our CVS archive over to SVN are, as far as I can tell, the following: For the change: (1) I will be able to get read and write access to the archive. This means that ... (2) I will not have to pester other developers to send me up-to-date versions of the source tree. (3) I will be able to put changes into the source tree myself rather than waiting for somebody else to do it. Against the change: (1) Everybody will have to change his download and upload scripts. (2) Everybody will have to learn SVN (if he doesn't already know it). Morally Neutral: (1) There was some question about the format in which the SVN archive was stored not being readable after an upgrade to the operating system, but I believe this concern was addressed. Please let me know if it was not. Given these arguments for and agaisnt changing the configuration management, how do people feel about it? Have I missed any relevant issues? John F.
