They should give you the minimum range reading, in meters, found in
the left (or counterclockwise) half and right (or clockwise) half of
the scan, respectively.
Unfortunately, up until now, they have been unimplemented, and just
return data from uninitialized variables (i.e., garbage). I have
fixed this by implementing min-left and min-right support in
libplayerc, then exposing in libplayerc++. This is done on HEAD and
2.0.x, and so will appear in Player 2.1 and 2.0.5.
