I'm a newcomer to Player/Stage and I'm finding the documentation to be
a little sparse. I believe you presented a workshop at IROS giving a
tutorial on P/S/G. Are there any notes from that tutorial which might
be made available, please?

I'm sorry to say that we had to cancel that tutorial, so the notes were
P/S has got a lot more powerful in the last year, but also rather more
complex. We need some more introductory material, for sure.
I will write a new "Player/Stage Getting Started" for Stage v1.6 in
the next few weeks, and post to this list when it's done.
I know that doesn't help much today. For now all I can recommend is
reading the manuals very carefully and looking at the examples in
<player>/examples and <stage>/worlds. Run the examples and compare
what you see with the descriptions in the manuals.
If you write things down as you figure them out, maybe you could put
together a beginners' page?
