I think the most widely available and supported framegrabber option is a
BTTV878 based PCI board. These work fine with camerav4l. For example the
DFG/SV1 from the same people that make the DFG1394. Many devices use this
chip. See CARDLIST.bttv in the kernel documentation for a list.
It'd be great to get V4L2 working. I expect more devices will surface without
V4L1 support (USB2 webcams?).
