(This mail is a somewhat delayed answer to an old thread - I just found it stuck in my outbox - rtv) Stage includes a generic bumper/whisker model as well as sonars. Both can be configured independently of the rest of the robot, so you don't need to be a Pioneer to have sonar. Look at how we define a pioneer (in pioneer.inc in Stage's source tree) to get the idea for sonar. Bumper/whisker arrays return an array of contact/non-contact booleans using Player's bumper interface. Richard.
