Think of it this way: left and right are x coordinates that define two vertical lines, and top and bottom are y coordinates that define two horizontal lines. The blob (or at least its bounding box) is the square formed by the intersection of those four lines. Note that there are x,y coordinates as well, for the centroid of the blob. brian.
