Folks, Easy-now-tiger-time. ActivMedia have assured me that the software bundled with the standard Pioneer 3 package comes at no cost to the purchaser. ARIA (the P2OS replacement) is GPL. Saphira is under conventional copyright, but given free by its author(s). So, please do let ActivMedia know if Player is in your plans for new robots, but please don't hassle them (as I just did) about unappealing bundling policies. Having ARIA GPL is very cool, the stability of its serial interface is good for Player, and the Pioneer has been getting better and better. It's still not perfect, though. I wish there was more choice in this market, but I guess there just isn't enough market to attract new players (no pun). best, Richard. -- Richard Vaughan / HRL Laboratories / va...@hr... / +1 310.317.5689 |
