If you have a working WiFi or ethernet connection on the gumstix, then you can use socat (its available in the buildroot) to create a link between a PC running player server and the roomba, through the gumstix's serial port and custom cable. Basically socat runs on the gumstix and the PC. On the pc side it creates a virtual serial port that transports data sent to/from this virtual serial port via TCP to the gumstix where it connects to the real serial port attached to the create. Depending on your overall goals maybe this setup would be better for you anyway. It would let you run the player server and robotics primer on your PC, which is trivially easy to get the latest version to compile for (as opposed to the gumstix where everything is a challenge). And it sounds like you're running the robotics primer software on the PC anyway, so its not like you gain very much running the player server on the gumstix. |
