For 2.1 you are probably better off keeping the driver as a plugin, new drivers for the svn version should go into trunk. However if do wish to modify player to include the driver you will need to modify:

acinclude.m4
configure.ac
driverregistry
and the relevant Makefiles etc in the drivers tree.

In svn trunk a new driver requires only additions to the folder it is placed in.
