I've started tracking some information about node status in a gnats db
available at:
http://mbowman-pldesk.nbgisp.com:8001/cgi-bin/gnatsweb.pl

To get information on the list of down nodes, login is "guest" with
"planetlab" as the password, select the saved query "DownNodes" at the
top of the page.

Note that there are no guarantees that this service will be continued.
