Hi, Geng. I have possessed the same problem, too. In fact, there are far more than 32 access points in most of the places of my university. Sometimes, our group can retrieve around 1x APs data and after few seconds it crashed with the same warning. I have also searched through this forum, but no suggestions on how to recompile the spotter.dll I also hope someone can help:| Yanhui Geng wrote: > > Hello everyone. Hello everyone. When I run APviewer.bat, I got a error "could not retrieve BSSIDs from the wifi hardware. The data area passed to a system call is too small". I search it online and find this happens because spotter.dll has a limit of MAX_APS (32, indicated in spotter.h) that can be detected simultaneously. So after changing the value of MAX-APS, how can I recompile the spotter.dll (please tell the details)? Or anyone can share a recompiled spotter.dll which can support more than 32 APs to yh...@gm... If you take a look at the "native" section of placelab there is native code that must be installed on whatever platform you are using placelab on in order to access the wifi hardware (the win native is different then the linux native). I suspect that in order to implement placelab on a N95, you will have to figure out what the native code is to access the wifi hardware. Hi Chuong Vo, I am not sure what may be causing this, but just as a shot in the dark I would guess that it has something to do with the driver for the WiFi Card under Vista. We had a similar problem with bluetooth drivers and hardware in XP. In our case we needed Dlink hardware and drivers for it to run. Hope this helps, Keith. FYI.... A change made to the wigle.net Query output page during the past few months (prior to 09/01/09), has effectively broken MapLoader's ability to download AP Beacon data from wigle.net. A new field, "lasttime", has been inserted between "firsttime" and "flags", causing "trilat" and "trilong" to be offset by one from their former relative positions in the output. As a result, MapLoader reads latitude values as longitude, and "Y" or "N" as latitude. MapLoader needs to be updated to account for this. ~Bob Curtiss |

Hi Bob, I have never used that part of place lab but I would guess that there is a parser somewhere for MapLoaderGUI that needs to be changed. Thats the way it is for the parts I have experience for anyway. So you would need to go into MapLoaderGUI.java and trace back where the data comes in to where it is parsed. Then update the parser code. Again, only a guess though. Hello, I'm trying to use MapLoaderGUI to download beacon data from wigle.net. I was able to do this successfully a few months ago, however now I'm getting a silent failure -- and the hsqlmap.data file has a file size of zero bytes. Has anyone else experienced this? An admin at wigle.net has confirmed that they did make some changes to the format of their query results page during the past couple of months. Since MapLoaderGUI is essentially a "screen scraper", I suspect that the format change has resulted in this silent failure. Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Bob Curtiss |

...or do I need to create 2 new values for the enum and then call GetCurrentNetworkInfo() and GetSignalStrength on different invocations of RunL()?
enum TDataState {
EWaiting,
ERecvData,
ESendData,
EGetNetworkInfo,
EGetSignalStrength

Hi, the method getNormalizedSignalStrength() of class GSMReading returns an int. I can consider it as a measure in db or dbm of signal strength? |

Hi, How does placelab store the wardriving data? I would suppose there's a table for gps coordinates, signal strength, time, etc. And from that you would calculate the location of each beacons(APs), and store it in a different table. Where can I find the algorithm to compute the location of beacons from the measurement data? Can I get the DB schema? Thank you! -Dongsu |

Hi everyone, I am planning on using PlaceLab to develop a proof-of-concept application of localization for my undergraduate thesis. Before asking my actual question, I want to first tell you about a problem that I fixed, hoping that I could get some feedback about the fix. When I first untarred the PlaceLab SDK, I tried to run the ApViewer application. Yet I received a Java Exception called UnsatisfiableLinkError with a SWT library. Since the swt.jar file was sourced using the CLASSPATH variable, I couldn't figure out what was causing this issue. Googling it didn't really help. I then found out that I had to add the following line to the java command-line: -Djava.library.path=$HOME/PlaceLab/placelab-linux/native It turns out the SWT library file "libswt-gnome-gtk-3062.so" wasn't in the Java Path. I don't know why nobody else had this problem (since there were no other posts on it anywhere online). Is this the right fix, and do you know why this happened to me? I am running Linux by the way. Now to my actual question. When I run ApViewer, the GUI displays correctly, but the application uses the wrong interface to scan for APs. It uses eth0, which is my ethernet adapter, instead of eth1. I couldn't find any command-line options that would change this, and looking in the code didn't really help either. How can I fix this issue? Thanks, and Best Regard, Berk |

Hi, =20 I'm having a problem installing placelab on a Nokia N80. The MIDlet .jar files install without problem but the when I try installing the .sis files the phone is giving me the respective error messages: "Installation of 'placelab.sis' not supported" "Installation of 'placelab-autostart.sis' not supported" =20 Perhaps I'm missing something. Has anyone experienced anything similar or can you give me any suggestions on fixing this problem? Thanks for reading, =20 Fergal Monaghan, Digital Enterprise Research Institute, National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland. |
