I tried your wonderful (at least it wil be soon :D ) pkremote on my K100D DSLR.
When running it as a normal user (I changed GROUP in /etc/udev/pentax.rules) it doesn't detect any camera.
If I run it as root with sudo, it sais (on the status bar) "Connected:(null)" and the terminal I started it from traces this on and on till I Ctrl-C or close the program:
pslr.c:1023:scsi_write(fd, cmd, sizeof(cmd), 0, 0) failed: 2
pslr.c:670:command(p->fd, 0, 1, 0) failed: 2
pslr.c:213:ipslr_status(p, statusbuf) failed: 2
Opps! bu first traces this just once (doesn't matter if I sudo or not):
(<unknown>:6076): libglade-WARNING **: Error loading image: No se ha podido abrir el archivo «/usr/local/share/pkremote/gimp.xpm»: No existe el fichero ó directorio
(<unknown>:6076): libglade-WARNING **: could not convert string to type `GdkPixbuf' for property `pixbuf'
Hope this means something to you :P

Of course I volunteer for testing anything you release for this camera or the ISTDS
Cheers!

By the way, I created an account on sourceforge, which (I think) would make things easier
