Hoi, Looks like "installing packages from sun dvd" is a planned feature of pkgutil. Is there some work in progress / ideas where I might get my hands dirty? Cheers Robert |

Use the barely documented -S option to suppress the license display.
Thus, here is a manual upgrade on a very old and very stable Solaris 10
server. I will upgrade to pkgutil 1.6.1 which seems to work very well and
does not fall over due to cyclic dependency issues :
# uname -a
SunOS lw-global 5.10 Generic_118822-25 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-2
# cat /etc/release
Solaris 10 1/06 s10s_u1wos_19a SPARC

I used to just install the blastwave pkgutil package, but that version seems quite old.
I wanted to upgrade, so in my JumpStart finish file (where I used to install the blastwave pkgutil package and then use it), here is what I do now:
BASEDIR=/a
mkdir -p ${BASEDIR}/opt/csw/bin
mkdir -p ${BASEDIR}/var/opt/csw/pkgutil
mkdir -p ${BASEDIR}/etc/opt/csw
for f in pkgutil pkgutillog bldcat chkcat wget-i386
do
cp ${SI_CONFIG_DIR}/packages-local/$f ${BASEDIR}/opt/csw/bin
done
cp ${BASEDIR}/opt/csw/bin/wget-i386 ${BASEDIR}/opt/csw/bin/wget
cp ${SI_CONFIG_DIR}/adminfile ${BASEDIR}/var/opt/csw/pkgutil/admin
cp ${SI_CONFIG_DIR}/pkgutil.conf.jumpstart ${BASEDIR}/etc/opt/csw/pkgutil.conf
Of course, the installed pkgutil.conf (above) needs to configure the MIRRORS variable to point to the blastwave server.
After all that, the new pkgutil seems to work fine.
I am guessing a major benefit the blastwave package of pkgutil performs is to set up all the default directories, etc, which I had to learn the hard way....

I use pkgutil to install a bunch of packages from Blastwave. Many of these packages have some GNU/GPL license, and *every* such package seems to want to display many many pages of text describing the license, lack of warranty, etc. All these package installs are happening via my JumpStart finish script, and so they are output to my display via 9600 baud serial console port. This seems to add approximately a hour to every system install. Is there some way to convince pkgadd to NOT display all this stuff, or to redirect it to another file? If there is an ACTUAL problem with the package install, i would definitely like to know about that, so I would prefer not to eliminate ALL output from the pkgadd, but would love to find a way to eliminate the repetitive display of bollerplate. Any ideas/suggestions? |
