Are raytraced shadows supposed to take displacement into account?
The displacements are raytraced if you turn on the displacements attribute:
Attribute "trace" "displacements" 
That did the trick.
Unfortunately it also makes Pixie sporadically crash. It doesn't happen every time, in fact I don't see any pattern. The rib file and textures are on the web at:
Any help would be appreciated.
The Zip file does not have the RIB file... Can you also pack the headers I need to compile the shader?

I tried rendering the scene and it crashed the first time but not again even after lots of tries. I don't understand.

Windows capitalized the name. It's correct now.
I'm afraid I could not replicate the crash. I rendered the scene about 10 times and it rendered fine. Can you tell me which version of Pixie you're using and on what platform? As usual upgrading to the latest version always help.
What processor/system and "threads" settings do you use?
AMD Athlon 64X2 running windows. Default settings for rndr.
Like I said in my previous message I can't get it to crash regularly either. I'm going to assume that it was some weird interaction with something in the system or another application.
For the record I'm using the prebuilt binary of Pixie v2.2.3 on Windows XP.
If it happens again, and I can repeat it, I'll post the .rib and other files.
