Hi, I'm working on a Docker image for pioneers-server-gtk. The reason for doing so is that hosting a Pioneers server requires port forwarding, which is understandable but not something I would like to setup on my home network. Since all my servers are headless, I created a Docker image which allows you to access the pioneers-server-gtk GUI through a web browser. pioneers-server-gtk itself works; I'm able to select a map, the amount of players, start a game and join it from my home PC. However, I'm unable to add any Computer Players. The button to do so is greyed out. I started pioneers-server-gtk with debug logging enabled using the debug flag. This only returns one warning: ** (pioneers-server-gtk:588): WARNING **: 20:08:24.600: Error while loading settings: No such file or directory Additionally I also receive an Avahi error in the GUI: Unable to register Avahi server, Daemon not running. Unregistering Avahi. However, I also receive both on my home PC, on which I am able to select a Computer Player regardless, so I don't think these are related to my issue. pioneersai is installed, as it was bundled with the 'pioneers' package. I am able to start the pioneersai package manually via the command line, after which the Computer player will show up properly in the server interface. The Docker image is based on Ubuntu 22.04, but on Debian 11 I encountered exactly the same issue. In the Docker image, I tried installing all pioneers packages (pioneers, pioneers-data, pioneers-console, pioneers-console-data) but that makes no difference from only installing the 'pioneers' package. I understand that this is not your typical deployment, but I was wondering if you have any pointers why I'm unable to add any Computer Players. Thank you |

In addition to the manual in the Pioneers client, you can also find an online version of the manual here: http://pio.sourceforge.net/manual/ch03.html The exact command is indeed not listed in the manual. In the FAQ section, the question 'I've seen a game at the metaserver, but I cannot join?' indicates that a firewall might be involved. The instructions for dyndns appear to be offline, perhaps I have a copy somewhere, which I can host myself. The wording in the manual is rather vague, there are millions of ways to configure the router to do port forwarding. If you have a proposal, I'll update the manual accordingly. The Avahi service is only needed to advertise games in your local intranet. The 'Join' button in the 'Avahi' section will allow you to select such a game, without having to type host names or port numbers. The program might appear to be stuck at 'Connecting to...', but it is waiting for a time out. The time out might be a few minutes, which gives the impression that the program is stuck. I want to run the server on a shared server with CentOS but I am not allowed to install packages on it. Is there a manual for this case or can someone help me? for Dear , With some friends, we tried and played pioneers for the first time recently, and that was quite nice! Overall, no glitch, and the user interface is quite friendly. The only problem was that since we played between people of different nationalities, some of us got different language installed by default (on Windows), despite not being asked what language they prefer. I guess the default is the computer language. This was a bit annoying, because objects are named differently, causing confusion while trying to discuss. We wanted to all set our language to english, but we couldn't find any option to do so, despite looking in the manual. Hi, Bert. I'm the person who created the Nouvellia theme a few years ago, mostly because I thought the game was very solid, but I absolutely detested the other stock themes (jarring colors, confusing colors, not intuitive, etc.) As you can tell, I am not an artist by trade but I'm glad you've liked the theme in some fashion. My primary goals were: 1) make the tiles immediately intuitive without having to think, 2) try to make it look like real, living island (e.g. rivers that connect, grass colors that bleed into the neighboring tiles if the resource would come from a similar altitude, trying to insert elements to make the tiles seem more interconnected) and 3) try to be pleasing to look at. I'm sure someone with an artistic background could create something even more compelling. When I submitted my theme, I emailed it to the list in a compressed file. It's important to include the license info so it can be distributed with free software without any worries. The code has not been written -- as far as I know -- to make the pixmaps for the resource cards match the ports, etc. It can be done manually by replacing the icons in /usr/share/pixmaps/pioneers in a KDE Neon / Ubuntu / etc system. I supplied Roland with the .pngs for those, in case it ever became possible or desired. I too think the UI could be redesigned a little to be more intuitive and I was actually thinking about getting re-acquainted with C to tinker. This list is a bit sleepy but Roland does reply to it. Perhaps some mockups would help people get an idea of what you would propose. Fun! The width of a tile of the default board layout on a 1920x1080 screen is 136 pixels. So all the details of your 600x700 images will get lost during rescaling. I'll have to further investigate why it went down. The metaserver is up again, and is intended to stay running. pioneers.game-host.org is the metaserver that allows you to create new games without installing the server on your computer and without the need to punch holes in your firewall. I've looked at your scripts. I have some questions about them (Don't be baffled by the amount of questions, I'm just curious. I always have lots of questions during code reviews): Could it be that the project 'PioneersStartup' is your own version of the pioneers-metaserver? (apt-get install pioneers-metaserver) If you want to, you could run your own instance of the metaserver, which will (as a security benefit) not need to be running as root. But I don't think there would be a need to run your own metaserver, instead I recommend to use the existing ones. Also, you might want to take a look at the folder admin-scripts in the Pioneers repository. That folder also contains some scripts that help me in maintaining (also within screen) the metaserver and the bots that are in the lobby games. The pioneers-metaserver is currently running at two locations, pioneers.debian.net and pioneers.game-host.org. That second location allows you to start your own server, with several parameters. You can start your own server with 'Game|New Game|Metaserver -> pioneers.game-host.org|Join Public Game|New Remote Game|...|Create'. See also the manual: http://pio.sourceforge.net/manual/ch02.html#server-create-dialog You wrote 'within 1 minute of a crash'. I'm really curious how you manage Pioneers to crash.
