It is possible, but will always be a compromise, since the physical resolution of Arcade CRTs is very limited. While in a game, TAB into Mame settings, select video settings and try various combinations of resolution and scaling settings until you find one that fits best.
First message here, so hopefully it's not a FAQ. Everything looks fine with pinhp when playing horizontal games on my horizontal (wells-gardner) CRT. I've adjusted vertical and horizontal controls accordingly. However, when I play some vertical games (e.g. pacman), the top and bottom are overly cropped. Is there a way that I can specify for vertical games played in this configuration how they should be scaled? Thanks!
pinHP‘s Lemonlauncher menu is a very simple and rather limited user interface designed for Arcade cabinets. Besides the „Menu Select“ (P1-Button1) and „Back“ (P2-Button2) buttons, a third button (P2-Start) can be configured to trigger a specific action. Now, when configured as a „quick menu“ button, a drop down menu will appear to make it possible to quickly select even more actions without having to navigate through the system: Activate screensaver, clone joysticks or buttons (Jamma only), toggle...
P2-Start can be configured as quick menu button: Options > Control Settings > P2-Start Button
TAB into MAME settings or on the fly resolution change (comma and dot keys) is only possible if pinHP menu is not in childproof mode. Children, while wildly moving the joystick and pushing buttons, happend to trigger custom defined key combinations to change MAME settings. https://pinhp.github.io/docs/user_manual.html#hide_settings_menu

I'm afraid you'll have to fiddle with your monitor hardware settings. Mame supports brighthness and gamma adjuments only.
ok sorted! It doesn't scale ideally but I can play the games at least, thank you! one more question, i want to decrease the red in my monitor, can I do it in software to avoid the hussle in some option or by editing a config? all I get in TAB is pallete change regarding video
Vertical games will always be a compromise on horizontal monitors. The CRT monitor hardware is simply not capable of displaying enough pixels. However, you can TAB into the MAME game and try different video resolution settings, especially in combination with the various resize settings ("integer", "fractional", etc.). Depending on the game, this might give decent results, despite missing pixels or details. You can then save those video settings "for this game only" or for all games using the same...
update, sorted the stick, I still can't figure the vert games to display centerd in full in my horiz monitor
Hi, im having a problem with vertical games they are chopped off when disabling rotation on a horizontal monitor. Also, it wont populate folders on my fat32 stick, can I manually add the structure and what is it? Thanks in advance!
Message got garbled by the link. I'd prefer solid state, but the Ultimarc PAC is fairly expensive, and I can have the above delivered to me for about €15.
Hi, I'm looking at controlling LEDs on the 16 face buttons. Would I be best getting an Ultimarc PAC-drive, or does it matter what I use? I was kind of hoping some things might be added for the PAC-drive already, since it's widely supported. I appreciate this comment here: Sample scripts are included in the image (/root/scripts/custom) However, I'm still getting the hardware together, so don't have an image on an SD card yet.
Shutdown dialog: 'Cancel' button works again.
Unfortunately, just scrolling is not sufficient, since the system does not register it. You would have to actually select an action, e.g. the 'About' dialog, to restart the screensaver timeout.
Thabks and one more question. Can I make it to where if I'm scrolling through the games the screensaver does not come on? it seems like it's hard lock to the 5 minutes that I said it too but if I start scrolling just before those 5 minutes are up it will go into screensaver even though I was moving the controls looking for a game.
That was it! Thank you very much. I didn't realize man had its own idle out setting. thanks again I appreciate it.
I'll have to look into it. Which pinHP version with a screensaver working as desired did you use before? Have you checked "Idle Exit" in Options > Mame Settings?

Hello. There was a feature on the old PinHP that I really liked but I cant seem to get it to work now that I updated. With the (Play Random Game) screensaver on it used to sit at the menu and then go into a game then back to the menu then to a new random game. I liked this very much as it would start up a random game every few minutes and I could press start if I wanted to play it. Now with the update, the screensaver will only start from the menu, and it stays in the game that it starts. Is there...

HI, I'm struggling to get the image for 04NOV25. Where's the best place for this? Many thanks.
Has anyone done this with something like an arduino and a few MOSFETs? If it supports that relay protocol it should be fine, since those relays are just serial commands.
That will probably do! I bought a full set of light up buttons and was planning on using them, but they're awful compared to my current buttons. However, I'd still like to do player 1 and 2 lighting up with a coin, and I have one of those USB relays sitting in my drawer :)
Since pinHP version 09FEB24, you can as well switch USB relays with the 'usbrelay' command. No need for GPIO here, but still wiring and some scripting required, obviously . See https://github.com/darrylb123/usbrelay
It‘s not about LEDs, it‘s about switching GPIO pins and relays. I use regular lamps in my buttons. Sample scripts are included in the image (/root/scripts/custom) Be prepared for quite some wiring work though, from Pi2Jamma to relays and up to the buttons, similar to the monitor rotation example on the pinHP web site. Wiring for illuminated buttons follows the same scheme: From a GPIO pin on the Pi2jamma to one side of a relay, the other side of the relay switches the lamp. One dedicated relay for...
Hi, Am I going crazy, or did I read about a month ago that pinhp supported LED control? I ask, because I was thinking of changing the buttons to LED buttons, and then having the relevant ones light up per game, and I downloaded PinHP thinking it supported that? JLB
Updated game engine to AdvanceMAME 5.0 Added MAME Cocktail Mode option, works for games which support it via DIP switches Updated game info database for filtering and grouping. Many thanks to user 'Brik' for his support!
