Overview

The Pilot's Chart Viewer is an iOS application that is used to view FAA digital aviation charts on the iPad and iPhone. It has been available on the iTunes App Store for over two years and maintains a 4+ star rating.

An emphasis has been placed on providing a high display performance. It zooms and scrolls very quickly and the image is very clear and sharp.

The Pilot's Charts app is designed to operate without an internet connection. If the device is GPS enabled then the app will provide information such as the current location, speed, heading, altitude and distance to way points. It will also record trackpoints with time, location, speed and elevation which can later be shared and viewed.

Basic flight planning capabilities are provided. Waypoints can be created, labeled and edited and then series of waypoints can be linked to create a flight plan. Distances and headings are automatically calculated.

Charts are downloaded from a server along with the information necessary for their correct display. The downloaded information is maintained in a MySQL database on the server. Communications between the app on the device and the server use Java's Jersey running on the Glassfish server. The Java code is in a Netbeans project.

I have grown tired of this project and would like to see some fresh blood involved. I'm happy to continue to maintain the server and Apple iTunes App Store account if that's desired by the development community.
