Oh no ! :-)))))) Don't fall in this so often seen process of creating everywhere the same thing because some (the majority ?) people just want to get things without having to think about it. In developping a free software people get a chance to develop new ideas and give them to whoever wants to make some little efforts to get those new ideas. If DB must mimick thinkdb, why a new software ? Free software is not a matter of being the most used program. For that we have commercial paradigme. I love db BECAUSE it's elegant and BECAUSE its interface is different than those annoying "intuitive" ones, which in fact are never intuitive, just all the same. And I think that development efforts are more efficient and interesting in creating new concepts rather than reimplementing the same weird menu one more time. > Now I know that this is not really necessary, but it would save us having > to ask the users to read the manual, which no one does anyway!! That has You know what ? When I see a button like the one on the left of the databases list, I CAN'T even try to resist to the desir to tap on it, and Bingo ! I've found how to copy or delete even before asking myself about that :-))))))))) People who are not able to read doc or to try to tap on a visible button probably won't be able to use a database program efficiently. > means a few more bytes of memory and also redundant menus, but is it not > worth it? :-)))))))))))))))))))) Got my point ? :-))))))) Fab. |

Not that these two examples make it a standard, but both Data Viz's Docs2Go= and Plucker use a very similar interface. They both have icons beside the= title that you tap to get a list of options for that database. Secondly, I have an older version of db, but the Help on the main database = page is empty. If this is still the case with the in the newest release I = would suggest that instructions for manipulating databases be added there. Larry >>> Hans Ajiet Holtkamp <aji...@t-...> 11/27/02 06:07PM >>> My second suggestion is to consider why these questions are asked so often. I have pondered over this for quite a while and have come to the conclusion that this must be due to a non-standard user-interface - I hope the software developers will not undestand this as a criticism - it does not mean that the one used at the moment is a bad one - it is just that it does not seem to be a standard, although it is very nice and elegant. In my opinion there are two possiblities - either we keep this non-standard (and elegant and nice) user interface and take into account that we will keep getting such inquiries and keep getting upset about it since the no. of users keep increasing, or else we should change the user interface to be more 'intuitive'. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------= ---------------- Note: Please update your email address for this user to reflect the=20 new MeadWestvaco Corporation. I would suggest that most of these questions come from Windows users (befor= e you flame me - I'm a Windows user, and I didn't say Windows users were st= upid. Windows just allows the novice break into the world of computers).= =20 My recommendations would be to get someone to build a Windows istall app th= at would include the help overlay during the installation process.
