PilotDB Mailing list, Hello everyone, I have a few great ideas for PilotDB. Firstly, is anyone able to create a program similar in function to pdb2cvs and cvs2pdb? If anyone can program C, which sadly my skills are not very good. I would think adding support for exporting and importing of .SQL files. Exporting would give options such as export via a transaction, using INSERTs or UPDATEs. It would use the database name as the table name and convert field types. The import would use the table name as the database name and also convert the field types. Since some field types wouldn't be supported, at these times it would ask the user for a choice of field type. My next idea might be easier or even more complex, but it involves the PilotDB Palm application. Would you be able to add by any chance the ability for entering SQL queries directly on the Palm, loading these queries from a memo or PDOC should also be possible. Even creating a seperate storage database for queries. This storage database could then also be loaded as an actual database to modify directly in PilotDB. If SQL is added, I would suggest either a menu item or a button. At first keep the command relatively simple at first, SELECT should be the first one added. I believe by adding SQL support to PilotDB, it would make it the first database for the Palm to accept SQL commands extenting to the next level of Palm computing. And a final idea, is it possible for anyone to create a Palm Library which can be accessed by 3rd party applications to use PilotDB databases from their own applications. For example, sending an SQL query from onboard C or anyother application which can use libraries. This will furthermore extent the ability of PilotDB into being using in mainstream Palm applications. As long as the mainstream application ships with the library and possible the GNU GPL license. It's all your choice where it goes from there. These are just a few idea which I have that I think will make PilotDB stand out from not just anyother Palm Database application, but also from any Palm application that currently exists. Just think about it, a web developer taking importing a product database from their website into PilotDB then after converting it into a small application using the library to ship with every application that they produce, thus every user that has their application will also have their entire or part of their product database which will should improve sales, it's a form of advertising. It will also improve development of various other applications, for example in the health sector. They just have to dump their entire research database onto their PalmPilot for reading away from the office, and re-importing the changes back into the main research database. The possibilies for what PilotDB could do after these have been added are almost endless.
