[pilot-db-list] Keeping categories after an upgrade

It would be convenient if databases kept their categories after an
upgrade to a new version of Pilot-DB.  I gather that all of the category
info (and other database metadata) is kept in the DBDatabases file.  Can
this file be preserved during an upgrade or is it version-specific?
