Hi, it's someone working porting this new protocol (packed I think with MSN Messenger 7.0) to gaim? I have seen a little and (even I'm new to gaim) it changes a lot the way the messages are handled, because in some cases more than one message is answered by the server. Regards, |

Who is working on that? moogman in #gaim on irc.freenode.net has been talking about some work he has under way. it was, according to him, already partly done, by the time I realized what he was working on. I have not seen a patch from him as yet though. luke > > -- > Felipe Contreras > |

Last I talked to him, there were a few things left to implement and then he had to split the patch apart to make reviewing it easier. His patch will get Gaim to MSNP10. The only required difference to MSNP11 is the authentication, which is documented online (and code is available). That should be easy to add. moogman said he wants to get the MSNP10 stuff accepted before working on the MSNP11 authentication. Then, after that, (unless he wants to), I plan to add support for personal status messages. The only other new features in MSNP11 (MSN 7.0) are MSN Spaces integration and Shields.xml (http://msnpiki.msnfanatic.com/index.php/MSNP11:Changes#GCF). I don't really understand how the shields stuff is useful. Richard Laager |

Hi, This is basically all correct. My current local CVS (HEAD) is running on MSNP10, but I have yet to submit a patch, as a few things are broken at present (cannot block/unblock people), plus I am not happy with the quality of the patch as of yet :-) The changes are indeed straight forward on the whole, and am hoping that I will be able to finish my patch to MSNP10 within the next few weeks... The change from MSNP10->MSNP11 will involve re-doing the login/authentication section, as I believe its changed quite drastically for whatever reason, so figured it'd be better to do that as a separate patch. The personal status messages "come through" as soon as the protocol version is set to v11, so this should be essentially implemented in the same patch. The shields thing seems quite superfluous to me also, and so wasn't going to implement it unless it really needed to be included, for whatever reason. However, any information about how relevant it is (or for that matter, anything regarding the subject) would be welcome :) And just to anticipate any further questions: I won't be implementing "nudges" (a retarded feature), nor "winks" (which requires flash), but I think custom emoticons is already partially implemented, and that (at least) receiving MS Ink messages will work with a little modification of this. Sending Ink messages however, is not trivial (but if I'm bored...) :) Hope this helps -Kris (moogman) On Wed, 2005-06-08 at 18:04 -0500, Richard Laager wrote: > On Wed, 2005-06-08 at 17:08 -0400, Luke Schierer wrote: > > moogman in #gaim on irc.freenode.net has been talking about some work > > he has under way. it was, according to him, already partly done, by > > the time I realized what he was working on. I haven't tested it. I don't see the harm in having support for them (by printing a system message to the window). Obviously, shaking the window is stupid. > I think custom emoticons is already partially implemented, and that (at > least) receiving MS Ink messages will work with a little modification of > this. Sending Ink messages however, is not trivial (but if I'm > bored...) :) If you can do Ink messages as "fortified GIFs", it may not be so bad. Gaim could render the GIF and ignore the metadata about Ink. It's quite possible that you could just send a normal GIF and the official client would render that. Richard Laager |
