Hmm, I'm not sure I like the Yahoo one. I just prefer to think of my 
friends as giant smiley faces, rather than excited Y's. Not too big of a 
deal I guess, and I'm not sure if a giant smiley face very uniquely 
identifies yahoo. But usually we only resort to text when we have to.

I also don't recognize a couple of them, like the one that's 3 different 
colored people.

I think that's a really stylized MSN butterfly.

Heh, no, I just made your point for you I think: The blue blob dude  
is still representing MSN, so that's not an MSN butterfly ;)

like our current icon between the ICQ and Novell ones.

I like them.  What format is he doing them in?  SVG would be nice.

They're done in SVG, and then scaled down to the desired size and
tweaked there to be pixel-perfect:
