Is it just me, or does the red-bean site produce documentation that,
while perfectly inteligible in any given subsection, is hard to grasp
as a whole?

I'm really starting to hate subversion.

Right now I'm hung up on the fact that SF's posted directions[1] on
backing up a subversion repository don't work.

I'm all in favor of leaving subversion for something better.
