If you have the RH8 "perl" rpm installed you should have
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/libperl.so  You shouldn't
need to link libperl.so.5.8 to libperl.so (I don't), and you shouldn't need to
play around with any library include paths (I don't), but if you want, you can
try "ln -s /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.0/i386-linux-thread-multi/CORE/libperl.so
/usr/lib/libperl.so.5.8"
