Yes.  This is a known issue, and one that will be going away soon.
The problem is that our display widget has moved to UTF-8, but the
input widget remains locale-specific.

Please just be patient with us ...  This patch does temporarily solve
the problem in some places, but we are working on the Right Fix.  :-)
It shouldn't be long now.
