I thought it was a useful feature that any binary package might enjoy, but apparently no one cares, and package formats like rpm that have optional relocation support don't bother to take advantage of gaims ability to do so. Anyway, any individual user compiling Gaim from source obviously does not need the resulting binary to be relocatable, and anyone building a binary for distribution ought to be taking a long look at ./configure --help and selectively enabling/disabling stuff. Mike, if we're using binreloc improperly, its because we're using it mostly as a drop in replacement for autoconf's macros. I seem to recall it being sold as such, with only a few modifications needed. Perhaps I falsely assumed the compiler would catch anything that needed changing, or didn't take the time to double check things. --Tim |
