My status choice at the bottom of the Gaim window is very big, and takes up a lot of space, especially with those icons in it. Is it possible to hide that, or remove the icons, or make it smaller? It would be nice to have the option of not showing that toolbar and make the choice of online status from the menu.

The answer to one of my other questions helped with this problem. I unchecked show buddy details in the Buddies menu, and it made the status choice toolbar smaller.
